Band is open to all students in years 3-6. In some schools we begin lessons late in year 2 in preparation to begin band in Year 3.
Everyone should have a good quality, well maintained instrument.
Please see our instrument page for important details on the instruments that are offered as part of our programs.
You can HIRE a band instrument from MusicLinks, or you can provide your own.
• INSTRUMENT HIRE is a popular option for those students who are just starting out
• We can assist you to find a good quality pre-loved instrument to purchase, just reach out and ask!
We recommend 10-15 minutes each day when you're starting out - about 4 days each week.
It takes a while to make progress when you're just starting out on an instrument, and so it’s best to aim for a minimum 1 year commitment. While it can be tempting to just quit when things get a bit tricky, we always recommend sticking with it and riding the wave as the results are always worth it.
We have rehearsals and school lessons for weeks 1-9 of terms 1,2&3 and have week 10 as a make up only week. In term 4 we have rehearsals and lessons weeks 1-8 and week 9 Is reserved for make ups only.
You can certainly keep your current tutor if you're already having private lessons outside of school.
If your school's band program offers sectionals lessons we do expect that you join in those.
All students participating in lessons at school are also expected to contribute to their school's ensemble therefore in order to have lessons at your school you also must be enrolled in the Band Program.
There are no additional costs for performances. Additional fees are applicable to workshops and band Camps only

All instruments have their challenges. The best way to get off to a great start is to practice at home every day! 10-15 minutes of regular practice will mean it feels easier in no time.
Your child’s progress is really up to them. Practice practice practice! Mastering an instrument is something we can spend a lifetime achieving. The more we practice the better we get, it really is that simple!
